Vision

  • Push first analytics
  • DevOps automation sounds like internal tooling like Retool
  • Helping more junior analyst get up to speed on SQL
  • Everything is instantly shared in the workspace and instantly searchable by the team
  • End goal goal is teach people SQL and up skill them faster and better
  • Every VC includes GPT-3 but that technology is do-able if you have access and write natural language with SQL query.
  • Core of the last prong is making people who are analyst better at SQL.

Use Cases

  • New prong of devops automation
  • They had manual process so sales and operations can update stuff in Postgres. None of them know SQL.
  • Couple of people in analytics department who do know and need data back in Postgres that ops people are updating in excel or sheets.
  • The analyst who knows SQL can quickly spin up these forms that they can expose to the team, plug in data, and submit

Vs Retool

  • Retool gets really expensive on a per user basis.
  • Would be differentiated on price
  • We would stick with just SQL.
  • He used Retool but what was confusing is there are so many options. You can update Stripe and all these bells and whistle.
  • If we focus on SQL can be more differentiated.

Read/Write

  • Equipmentshare found them because market app can sync. So first person who found them wanted to write data from Snowflake into Google Sheet and just writing SQL and were pretty happy about it.
  • Can they sync data back to sheet? We have toyed around with this but its super hard to do because of all the edge cases. If they misformat the date it messes up when writing back to SQL.
  • Alternative is forms and DevOps automation feature. Built that in a nick of time when Equipmentshare and showed them and we wanted to do that anyways then people key in data into a Google sheet.
  • Only want Ops people to just select 4 stuff but if get access and have edit can do anything
  • Only want these 4 values are possible — also approval tier. It’ll collect the form and show up in the approval queue.

Raising

  • Strategy is get to profitability so default alive. Or at least it was obvious we would get there.
  • Next couple of months where we’ll be default alive and profitable.
  • Raise out in early next year.

Best Logos

  • Opendoor: primarily using it for sending database into sheets. He needs to reach out to them. They’d probably be interested in getting a lot more users and devops automation.
  • Metromile
  • Equipmentshare
  • users like Lime and Uber but never stuck into a paying customer
  • Toast
  • Best stories to talk about usage
  • Peloton and they pay and have been paying for a while and not a great usage story. One guy automated it and that’s it.
  • One person at Spotify and use it once in a while.

Notes

  • Build a slick way to edit your database like an Airtable. You can update cells. If we nail this use case that’s a business on its own. “SQL app that you actually want”
  • Seekwell does everything I want for an app that talks to database.
  • Joint customer in GoCanvas.com building mobile app for operations. I love Seekwell and DBT and best possible customer — full of quotes.
